In light of the recent and ongoing events with hurricane Harvey in Texas, we want to make sure that you and your family are prepared if a disaster were to happen here in Wisconsin.  The victims in Harvey were forced to make the decision on what to save in just a few hours, so that raises the questions: what would you save and, most importantly, what should you save?  The Milwaukee Fire Department urges families to have a plan set in place in case a disaster were to strike.  It's good to know what can help you in this situation, what is a necessity to save, and a survival kit that could potentially save your life.

While Wisconsin is safe from hurricanes, we still have a few other natural disasters to watch out for, like tornados, flash floods, and gas leaks.  The Deputy from the Milwaukee Fire Department, Chief Aaron Lipski, says that the easiest way to be prepared is having a backpack filled with the essentials to help you survive the event.  You never know how much time you'll have before you have to evacuate, so putting this survival kit together before the actual disaster happens is key.

Since many are not sure what to include in their survival kit, some of the items include a cellphone, bottled water, non-perishable foods, first aid kit, etc.  To see the entire list of items you should add to your kit, read more here!
