Sexual Assault Can Happen To ANYONE

Here's My Story....

Full disclosure: This blog post is 100,000,000% SERIOUS and I'm in no way, shape, or form trying to be funny.

Okay, now that we've covered that I'm being real here...please allow me to ask a hypothetical question. What would happen if, at a crowded bar on a Friday night, a man grabbed a woman by her private area after she refused a drink from him? THE POLICE WOULD BE CALLED, THE MAN WOULD WIND UP IN JAIL AND HIS LIFE WOULD PROBABLY BE RUINED, right?! Now what if the shoe was on the other foot?.....So, here's my story....

This actually happened a few weeks ago when my friend Phil was in town, but, out of fear of what the reaction would be, I've chosen not to discuss it...until now. We were at a local bar having a good time and, as always, trying to hook Phil up with a lady. There was a group of women in our age range at the bar, so we decided to chat them up. As fate would have it...and because Phil loves NOTHING MORE than dropping my name in conversation with people, this group of women happened to know that I am on the Morning Show here at KISS. One woman in particular, an attractive brunette, was a HUGE fan....

She offered to buy me a drink and, because I was being Phil's designated driver (I know...me being responsible!? Who am I?!) I politely declined the drink. Apparently, she didn't get the memo that I wasn't drinking...or maybe she was just drunk and didn't care, because she asked me a bunch of times throughout the night.....AND THEN IT HAPPENED....

I dropped my phone on the ground and as I bent down to pick it up, I felt a finger behind me being placed somewhere it should NOT be placed. I don't know the best way to give the facts without being graphic....but let's just say, as my grandmother used to when I was a kid, this finger went "where the sun doesn't shine". She then said "NOW can I buy you a drink?!" as if her violation of my private area was something that would make me instantly want to hang out with and take a drink from this predator.

I was SHOCKED, APPALLED, UPSET..and most of all BEWILDERED. Like, who does that?!?!? I didn't know what to do. Do I turn to the bartender and scream "THIS CHICK JUST VIOLATED ME"? Surely the bartender would do nothing but chuckle and make a joke about how this predator must "really like (me)". In my mind, the same would've happened if I went to a bouncer, or even my friend Phil. So I said nothing. I "laughed it off" while seriously wanting to cry on the inside. And I held it inside and told no one..until now.

Moral of this whole story: KEEP YOUR HANDS TO YOURSELF and IF SOMEONE ASSAULTS YOU OR MAKES YOU UNCOMFORTABLE IN ANY WAY, SHAPE, OR FORM, MAKE IT KNOWN!!!
