It’s officially October and now that summer has come to an end we can focus on the next holiday… Halloween! With the fun costumes come the copious amounts of candy that we can consume. According to CandyStore.com, “most Halloween shopping is done the first 2 weeks of October” and if you want to score the best haul (full-sized candy bars), you’ll want to trick or treat in Oregon because apparently, it’s the norm to not give anything less than the best!

In my opinion, there are two tactics for scoring candy – 1) go trick or treating, which you can do at any age if you’re polite about it (wear a mask… then you’re just a really tall kid and if you’re short, then you’re already good to go!).

The other tactic is to wait until November 1st when all of the Halloween candy goes on sale to clear the shelves. I personally lean towards the latter, I can get the candy I want at the best price and really, none of the effort (just patience)!

One of my favorite updates to see each year comes from CandyStore.com, highlighting the best Halloween candy for the year. In America, the top 3 candy preferences (based on 12 years of purchases) are 1) Skittles, 2) Reese’s Cups, and 3) M&M’s.

Interestingly, if you look at RetailMeNot’s survey results, you see a slightly different top 3 Halloween candies: 1) M&M’s, 2) Reese’s Cups, and 3) KitKat. Okay… but seriously, what do we have to do to get Reese’s Cups in their rightful first position? Haha.

Those sound like pretty standard candies, but how does Wisconsin compare to the most purchased candies in America? Coming in at most popular for our state are Starbursts (I do love a good pink starburst)! Then in the second place, it’s Butterfinger (2018’s winner for Wisconsin) and in third, Hot Tamales. When I think back to my childhood, all three of those were popular candies to get in my trick-or-treat bag!

However, as an adult, I am surprised that Reese’s Cups didn’t make it in the top 3 for Wisconsin… Butterfingers are great and all, but pretty much require a toothpick and floss at the end (which is such an adult excuse to make, haha).
