414 Day

Our Milwaukee Day Adventure, Despite the Sudden Spring Snowstorm

The perfect spontaneous day...

April 16, 2019

Every year on April 14th, Milwaukee gets to celebrate a very special day... Milwaukee Day! Because the date symbolizes our city's area code (4/14). I totally meant to go out for the events last year but it snowed - isn't it ironic that the snow was so much worse this year comparatively and I shot a vlog in the weather?

I had planned on making it happen last Friday and got Aaron Carreno from our sister-station (99.1 The Mix) on board... which as you can see from the vlog above, we both like to procrastinate, so I was honestly surprised we both followed through (more so speaking for myself, haha). But I do love a good snowstorm, so I didn't really need an excuse.

We started the day by going to the original Good City Brewing location on Farwell. I'm not sure if Aaron and Ryan knew it was a 414 Pint Glass distribution event or not, but either way, we walked in 5 minutes before it started. We couldn't find a place to sit and in a happy coincidence ended up 4th, 5th, and 6th in line for the event. The $10 pint glass included a normally $6 beer of our choice (so really, the glass was $4 - winning!). Oh, and Summerfest randomly stopped by to give out free tickets, score!

After that, we took an Uber down to Discovery World for the tail-end of the Milwaukee Makers Market with local vendors that handmade what they were selling! I believe Aaron ended up buying two pieces of artwork, turned out to be a great stop for him!

We took another Uber (seriously, we would have walked more but that snow was really coming down for like 6 hours straight) and ended up in the entertainment district of the Fiserv Forum. We were optimistic (probably more than we should have been) that people would be partying outside, getting ready for the NBA Playoffs game between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Detroit Pistons. The party was a bust and there weren't any seats open at the bars in the complex.

This time we went by foot to Rogues Gallery for a rumored, free pig roast (the rumors were true - good life choice). Along the way, we were able to check out the bright-green dyed Milwaukee River... but as it turns out, that didn't last all weekend. Ah well.

At Rogues Gallery we ran into Producer Gibbons and Riggs from the morning show - it really became quite the unplanned radio excursion by the day's end. After a few drinks the group split off a bit to find a spot to watch the game - we ended up at the Water Street Brewery and managed to get a table in front of a giant projection screen and surround sound (we waited for 30 minutes, but it turned out to be worth the wait).

Then the Bucks proceeded to dominate the game and it really was just about the best way to watch the game because the restaurant cleared out during the game (or guess is people had tickets to the game).

Despite the sudden Spring snowstorm, I don't think our Milwaukee Day could have turned out much better! Can't wait to do it all over again next year, who needs a plan when you can just wing it? Cheers, Milwaukee!
