You can roll over your vacation days (okay, not everyone can – I can’t – but some people can), so rather than coming up with something brand new, why not roll over previous resolutions! As they (Socrates or some old philosophical figure I’m sure) say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Maintaining is just as good of a resolution as is trying something new or dropping something negative from your life. Sometimes the hardest thing you can do is to keep something going in your life, especially when it would be easier to stop.

Back in 2015, I set a goal to lose 50 pounds and about a year and a half later, I did it! I didn’t view it as a diet or a temporary change, I viewed it as a shift in my lifestyle. I want to keep up the momentum from years past and finish losing the weight I set out to drop.

Two years ago, I started the 22 Pushup Challenge and have continued it daily since (on Instagram @JMattMke), it conveniently happened a few days into the new year of 2017 so I plan to continue that into 2019. But it has become so much more than a challenge to me, it is a way for me to promote mental health awareness.

With my mental health advocacy, I also know the importance of focusing on my own mental health. I have seen a therapist in the past, during my time living in Madison, Wisconsin. I’d like to find myself a new therapist here in Milwaukee so that when I need a professional to talk to, I have that ready.

Physical and Mental health aside, the third area of my life that I’d like to maintain is my Financial health! Last year I made a point to start budgeting better and got myself out of credit card debt. Now that I’m out and even saving money for an emergency, I’d like to keep that going. I want to spend 2019 getting further ahead.

There you have it, my 2019 New Year’s Resolution is to maintain the progress I’ve made physically, mentally, and financially! What’s your New Year’s resolution? Tell me on social media at @JMattMke (same handle on InstagramTwitterFacebook, and Snapchat).
