Illuminating Hoan Bridge one bulb at a time!

Last night (Thursday, November 1, 2018), I was invited to a VIP Viewing Party to see a demonstration of the Light the Hoan project and I have to say, I'm getting excited! A small portion of the Hoan Bridge was temporarily lit to demonstrate the possible lighting design and technical capabilities that could be seen across the entire bridge if they meet their fundraising goal.

Their mission is to illuminate the Hoan Bridge with bulbs donated by people like you - people within the Milwaukee community - to become our symbol of hope and unity! We all likely know someone (or an organization) that makes Milwaukee a better place to live and with this project, you can dedicate a bulb to tell their story. Each bulb is as cheap as $25, so you won't break the bank to be a part of Light the Hoan.

They are working to crowdfund $1.5M with the overall project estimated to cost between $4M and $5.5M. As of October 31, they've raised over $300,000 and have had nearly 800 dedications!

They recently released a teaser video of what the Hoan Bridge will look like when the whole bridge gets lit for local sporting events, festivals or awareness months. Here is a 3-minute tease from last night's demonstration!

The audio is a little hard to hear on the video from where I was standing, but the lights changed color to match events in Milwaukee. They mentioned specifically: Summerfest, Pride Fest, Irish Fest, German Fest, Polish Fest, Indian Summer Festival, Packers, Brewers, Bucks, Admirals, the Milwaukee Wave, Marquette, UW-Milwaukee, the Badgers, awareness for Breast Cancer research in October, and the Pediatric Cancer research in September.
