Relatives are mourning the loss of a Louisiana family.

Family members reveal that the novel coronavirus killed a mother and her three sons within days of each other.

The 86-year-old matriarch, Antoinette Franklin, passed away on March 23.
Shortly after, her son, Herman Franklin Jr. passed away. He was 71.

A few days later on March 26 and March 30, her sons Anthonly Franklin Sr. and Timothy Franklin died. They were 58 and 61, respectively.

Remaining family members told local station WDSU that they do not know how the Franklin family contracted the virus, but that they all became ill around the same time.

“My uncle passed, my grandmother passed, my dad passed, then my other uncle passed its literally like 7 to 8 days apart, it’s horrific,” Anthony Franklin Jr. said.

Other family members are using their story to urge the rest of the world to take the highly contagious virus seriously and practice social distancing.

“I want the world to know if it happened to the Franklin family, it could happen to any family,” Jacqueline Franklin revealed. “Let’s take this serious, my children have to bury their father, their precious grandmother and their uncles. Let’s not let this happen to another family.”

A memorial service was held for the three brothers on Friday while the mother’s memorial service was on Saturday.

Despite testing positive for COVID-19, the cause of death has not been revealed.

The CDC warned that those 60 and older and those with prior health conditions and the immunocompromised are at a higher risk of contracting the coronavirus.

Louisiana has been one of the hardest hit states with over 16,000 cases and 582 deaths as of Tuesday, according to The New York Times database. Medical experts believe recent Mardi Gras celebrations may have accelerated the spread.

New York takes the lead with more than 140,000 cases.
